ABSOLUTE Beginners series

This is for you if you are interested in beginning a yoga practice & are an ABSOLUTE Beginner.

You want to be in a class filled with people like you. Newbies, wearing comfortable clothes, knowing nothing about yoga but wanting to give it a go. You heard it makes a difference to managing your whole body, health & wellbeing. Maybe you’ve tried yoga before. Started in a class that had people in it who knew what they were doing, and here you were, feeling slightly awkward, couldn’t keep up and didn’t understand what was being said. You might have said, nah, not for me.

If this is you … this is the series you’ve been waiting for. At the end of the series you will feel confident to join into any of our timetabled classes, or continue to maintain a home practice. You will notice the difference it makes to your everyday life.

THE DETAILS: We cover in detail the basics of postures in Sun Salutation. The ABSOLUTE basics of breath, Yin, mindfulness & meditation. We also introduce you to the notion of rest + restore as a practice of taking care of yourself. Also woven through Yin, meditation & mindfulness is an intro to body intelligence, the effect of stress on the body, and how to manage this. Enrolment is for ALL workshops … This is truly an ABSOLUTE Beginners series.

Week One – Sun Salutation A Basics with Helen

Most Vinyasa style yoga classes begin with Sun Salutation A {surya namaskar} a warming up flow that moves the whole body. It is said that an entire practice is contained within this flow

In this Absolute Beginners version, we break each asana down to its most basic, slow movement/flow. We show you alignment and adaptations for your unique body, your current strength, how to move with the breath and the power of the inhale & exhale.

We will also guide you into the “feel” of each posture, where you should be feeling it and where not.

We plan it to be a light & fun filled class, where questions are most welcome.

Week Two – Sun Salutation B Basics with Helen

We continue to build on the week before, by exploring strength & power in Sun Salutation B

Learning how to bind the breath to each movement of the flow.

Week Three – Meditation & Mindfulness with Sophia

This workshop is the beginners intro to meditation & mindfulness. Its a bridging practice between mind & body, learning to integrate and listen to the subtle cues your body might offer.

Meditation comes in all shapes and forms. Many of us are not built to sit still. And thats ok. In this workshop you will experiment with the principles, and then adapt them to suit you. Its NOT important that you meditate like a monk, what is important that you meditate mindfully. Whether it be for five minutes sitting, or forty minutes when you’re running.

Week Four – Studio Practice Week with Carol

This week, go ahead & book yourself into one of the Yinyasa OR Vinyasa classes on our timetable … we want you to put into practice within a class what you have learnt so far. It then allows us to work with any questions that might arise for you.

A complimentary pass will be waiting for you. AND as always it is your choice to use this week as suggested.

The pass is only valid for this week

Week Five – Yin basics & Body Intelligence with Carol

Yin is one of our most popular classes. In this w/s you will learn several basic postures & the use of props. Woven throughout is an introduction to Body Intelligence, including stress management strategies.

Here’s why Yin Yoga is so popular;

  • Increases mobility in the body, especially the joints and hips
  • Lowering of stress levels
  • Greater stamina
